Top Reasons To Work From Home

If you are new around here, you may not quite realize just how enthralled I and my regular readers are about finding good jobs that lets us work from home.

You see, working from home has been the single greatest quality of life improvement decision I've ever made. I get to save thousands of dollars every year on gas at the cost of having to sleep in longer in my own bed every morning. I don't know about you, but that is a sacrifice I am willing to make.

Believe it or not, there are even more fantastic reasons to work from the comfort of your own abode. From saving time on commute to improved mental health, I will attempt to list all the reasons — some expected, others not so much — why working from home is so awesome in this article.

Advantages of Working from Home

  1. Keep Your Pets Company

Getting the opportunity to cuddle and play with your pets throughout the day instead of leaving them without proper mental and physical stimulation at home feels nice. And Fido can make those inevitable bad work days more bearable when he is at your side.

  2. Healthier and Tastier Lunches

You are no longer limited to lunches that will keep for several hours until lunch time or having to get an unhealthy fast food option at work. At home, you can just make a fresh, warm meal and eat it right away.

  3. Lunch Time is All Day

At home, lunch time starts and ends when you decide. And best of all, it doesn't always have to end!

  4. More Food Options

Not only do you have your whole kitchen at your service, and not only can you order your favorite delivery for lunch, but you can actually eat high fiber foods without feeling guilty about launching chemical attacks on your unsuspecting coworkers.

  5. Bring Delivery Inside Quicker

When your favorite new gadget from that online store gets delivered at your front steps, you can bring it inside right away. Not only does that reduce the risk of your package being stolen or damaged by bad weather, but would-be home burglars won't have any reason to suspect you are not home.

  6. Live Anywhere

No longer are you forced to live in a home that is close to work in the city. Once you are outside of busy cities, you can enjoy the perks of more afforable houses, less busy and safer streets, cleaner air, and a big backyard where Fido and the kids can really get some exercise.

Personally, a cozy home in the mountains surrounded by evergreens and a quiet coastline sounds idyllic.
  7. More Job Options

You can live in a small town and still have access to a diverse range of jobs and employers from around the world.

  8. Fewer Sick Days

You are no longer exposed to your coworkers' infections. You won't have to worry about introducing their infections to your family.

  9. Better Sick Days

When you do feel a bit under the weather, you can take a short rest in your own bed.

If you have digestive issues, you can run off to the bathroom without letting the whole office know.
  10. Fewer Distractions

Less chitchat, less meetings, less overall noise makes for a more focused and productive worker.

  11. Better Communication

Instructions from work are more likely to be written down in the form of emails if you are working at home. That means, if you forget something, you can quickly refer back to those emails.

  12. Get More Chores Done

When there is some down time at work, instead of chitchatting with your coworkers, you can fold the laundry or take the dog out.

  13. Fine Temperature Control

You are the master of your thermostat at home. You can also open the window for a gentle breeze anytime.

  14. Enjoy Music and TV Shows

You can watch your favorite new miniseries while enjoying a fresh sandwich for lunch from home.

  15. Improved Safety

When you are at home, you are more likely to notice if burglars are trying to canvas homes in your neighborhood.

  16. No Commute

You won't have to risk your limb 10 times a week for decades hoping your car doesn't unexpectedly break down in the middle of a busy road, or that a careless driver doesn't ruin your day. You will also save on gas and car repair costs.

  17. Less Time Spent Getting Ready in the Morning

This is especially true if you have to put on a lot of make up (I assume).

  18. Snow Days Are No Longer Stressful

No more having to wake up early to scrape ice off the windshield, leaving the car unattended while warming it up, and leaving home early to drive a slow and stressful commute to work just to arrive early and sit in the car for 20 minutes.

  19. No Hovering Bosses

It is a lot more difficult for your manager to hover over and micromanage every meaningless aspect of your work when they are so awesomely far away from you.

  20. No Pointless Chitchat

Undoubtedly one of the greatest perks of working from home if you are an introvert.

  21. Environmentally Friendly

Since you will be driving less, you will end up releasing less harmful exhaust into the air, and your car will last longer.

  22. Catch Burst Pipes Earlier

Since you will be at home, you will hear a burst or leaking pipe that much earlier, averting a serious water damage or flooding situation.

  23. Schedule Home Repairs

Plumbers and internet repair technicians can fix your issues that much sooner when you are at home to open doors.

  24. Comfortable Chairs

Get the most perfectly cushioned work chair and a desk at just the right height for your ergonomic needs.

  25. Make Bodily Noises

Make natural bodily noises without feeling embarassment or guilt. Yes, there! I said it!

  26. Comfortable Bathroom Visits

On a similar note, you are no longer subject to the sounds of digestive success broadcast by your fellow coworkers while you desperately try not to return the favor.

  27. Less Car Repair

Pretty much the only thing you do with your car is commute to work, yet every year, you have to waste an entire day getting your car repaired without ever getting reimbursed by your boss.

  28. More Family Time

If you have little kids, you know how important flexible schedules can be. Whether it is taking kids to the clinic, not having to find a babysitter, or just spending time together, this is one of the best perks of working from home. This benefit applies if you are caring for a sick or elderly family member as well.

  29. Wear Whatever

Want to work in pajamas all day? Go for it! Oh, and don't forget to take that cozy Sherpa blanket with you!

  30. Privacy

Whether it be your disabilities, medical conditions, podcast preferences, or dietary restrictions, you alone control what your coworkers can learn about your private life.

  31. Religious Convenience

Pray anytime, anywhere, without wondering how your coworkers feel about your religion.

  32. Tornado Warnings

If bad weather strikes during work, you can take Fido and all of your important gadgets and documents to the safety of your basement.

  33. Take Real Breaks

At an office, a so-called break still involves chitchat and noise. At home, a break from work can feel much more relaxing.

  34. Save Money

This is one of the best advantages of working from home. You will spend less on gas, car repairs, new clothes, babysitting and doggy daycare, along with rent or mortgage (if you move out of the city).

  35. Better Mental Health

Ultimately, this is what working from home is all about: Less stress.
